We hope that the following steps are helpful to you regarding the secure connection on The Onion Router.
- No more instances of the running browser
- Interfering antivirus software
- Tor and Kaspersky error
- Temporarily disable your firewall
- Reinstall Tor
- ISP problem
- Unable to establish a circuit
- Restrictive network
1. No more instances of the running browser
Sometimes this error can occur when there are more instances of Tor Browser running. If you’ve tried closing other instances, there might be a process that you can’t see.
If you are not sure whether there are other instances of Tor Browser running, try restarting your computer and your problem might be resolved.
2. Interfering antivirus software.
Make sure that no antivirus program you have installed is trying to prevent Tor from running. Sometimes you may need to consult the antivirus documentation if you are unsure how to work around this problem.
3. Tor and Kaspersky error
If you are using one of the versions of Kaspersky antivirus software, this could be the reason for your problem. In order to fix this problem, we have managed to come up with a solution which we hope will be of use to you.
In your Tor browser, you need to access Settings> Specify approved apps> App exclusions. Under this tab you need to check the Do not scan encrypted traffic box.
Another way around this is to access Settings> Network> Scan for encrypted connections and to select Do not scan encrypted connections.
4. Temporarily disable your firewall
Sometimes your Windows firewall can interfere with the Tor browser – this is the reason why you cannot access any web page. If you don’t know how to turn off your Windows firewall, you can find the necessary steps by going to this article.
5. Reinstall Tor
In some cases, the only solution is rather crude. Even though this seems like a rudimentary solution, in some cases it may be exactly what you need.
You can also try updating Tor. If you do, don’t just overwrite your previous browser files, but instead make sure that they are completely deleted beforehand. To perform this task, you can use any of the software removal tools listed in this guide.
6. ISP issues
If you still can’t connect, your ISP may be the one censoring your connections to the Tor network.
If you think this is the case, you might find a solution under the heading Tor project bypass section.
7. Unable to establish a circuit
You should try to check your system clock. If it goes out for more than a few hours, Tor will not build circuits. Try to synchronize your clock under the Internet time tongue.
Also correct the date under the Date and hour tongue.
8. Restrictive network
If you are located in China, or if you are behind a restrictive corporate network firewall, you should try to learn more about Tor Bridges.
